Network Fees

Network Fees

You can pay network fees on Aztec in three different ways, depending on your needs and available resources:

Fee Juice

Fee Juice is a non-transferable token specific to the Aztec protocol, dedicated to paying transaction fees.

Important: When using Fee Juice, the fee payment is always a public transaction — regardless of whether your actual transaction is private or not. This means the fee and its metadata are visible on-chain.

Fee Juice with Claim (via L1 Bridge)

This method also uses Fee Juice, but you mint it by locking tokens in an L1 contract (on Ethereum).
The L1 contract then provides credentials to mint Fee Juice on Aztec.

This allows you to bridge value from Ethereum and receive the corresponding amount of Fee Juice to pay for transaction fees on the Aztec.

FPC (Fee Payment Contract)

An FPC is a third-party fee payment mechanism where someone else pays the transaction fee on your behalf. It’s one of the most accessible and user-friendly methods for paying fees on the Aztec network.

There are two types:

  1. Sponsored FPCs - Cover your fees entirely for free. Marked with a “Sponsored” badge in the interface.
  2. FPCs - these charge a fee in exchange for covering your transaction cost. When using a commercial FPC, you may be prompted to add a supported token to your token list, which will be used for payment.

Reward payments to an FPC can be made as public or private transactions, depending on the user's choice and/or the supported token configuration of the specific FPC..

Managing FPCs

You can view, add, and manage your FPCs in the "FPCs" section of the wallet settings, giving you flexible control over your available fee payment options.

Note: While filling in transaction fields or signing a prepared transaction, you will see all available Sponsored FPCs, along with only those other FPCs that accept tokens currently held in your wallet..
